Back in January, Charity from One Crazy Love and I met up for coffee to discuss doing a styled shoot together. The whole process from beginning to end was this beautiful, organic collaboration. We ended up creating a modern Southern brunch wedding. Before I share the pictures, though, I want to explain what a styled shoot is, and why we (wedding professionals) do them. (I’ll be quick, I promise!)
What is a styled shoot?
Almost all wedding professionals, including planners, identify themselves as creatives. We form communities to support and encourage each other as creative business owners and entrepreneurs. We all, in at least some capacity, enjoy the art of creating. And we look at weddings all. day. long.
We love weddings. We love your wedding especially, because you bring your unique personalities and relationships to it. And thankfully, that’s what photographers spend most of their time capturing on the day of your wedding. They get those moments you spend holding hands with your mom before the ceremony; the kiss that you sneak with your partner during dinner; and the bridesmaids getting down on the dance floor. But remember *before* the wedding, when you were scouring Pinterest for all those gorgeous, inspirational detail shots? Do you know where those pictures almost definitely came from? Styled shoots.
For styled shoots, a group of wedding professionals get together and flex their creative muscles. They come up with a vision, and put together the photo shoots that fuel the wedding side of Pinterest. You’re welcome. 😉 When you find a set of pictures you love, you can usually tell the difference easily–a styled shoot will usually be titled with the word ‘inspiration’ and a real wedding will be called just that, a ‘real wedding’.
So let’s look at some brunch wedding inspiration pictures!
All that to say, Charity and I wanted to create something that would inspire practical couples. Many shoots are very overly styled, and not realistic options for wedding logistics, timelines, and budgets. We searched high and low for the perfect venue, and settled on an amazing little bakery in Asheboro, NC. The Table is a beautiful space that is open and fresh, exactly what we were looking for. From there, we envisioned a simple ceremony, framed within the large windows filtering in morning light for this brunch wedding.
Isn’t her dress just amazing? She’s wearing the Alicia gown by Theia Couture. Rachel over at Lana Addison Bridal hand picked it for this shoot, and she nailed it! It went with the Alencon clutch from Juniper & Lace perfectly, too! (Can you tell I’m a sucker for lace?) The bouquet featured greenery, lilac, and jasmine from Brandi’s Botanicals. I was swooning hard over that bouquet!
To follow the ceremony, we created a beautiful dessert brunch reception with pastries and fruit infused water. We decorated the pies with greenery and fresh jasmine from the florist’s own garden. 😍
We even had a bit of fun, getting the bride and groom to don adorable aprons and actually make a pie crust together in lieu of a sand ceremony! And they also unwrapped a collaborative cookbook from Honey and Hive Creations for this scene. (Such a special idea, right? Every family needs one of these cookbooks, you guys.)
