Today for our stationery series, we’re getting to know Hannah from Seafoam Design. This local Outer Banks stationery company has a lot of heart, and I can’t wait to share more about Hannah and her designs with you!
Let’s get to know Hannah from Seafoam Design
- What services you do you offer?
I offer design and printing services for wedding stationery and paper goods- from save the dates, to invitation suites, dinner menus, place cards, welcome bag inserts, etc… anything a bride or groom can dream up! I also offer digital downloads for anyone who would prefer the option to print their designs at home (a budget friendly option). I also offer Design Concept Creation, which helps people who don’t really have a vision for their event turn their tastes and ideas into a tangible design plan complete with a vision board and recommendations for local vendors who can help bring that vision to life. - Once a client hires you, what does the process look like from start to finish?
I start by trying to gather a sense of their personal style and vibe because their wedding will most likely reflect that. I’m not going to design a glittery, floral invitation with a super scripty, feminine font for a laid-back, earthy bride.Sometimes people can’t put into words what they want, but being able to talk to people (in person or on the phone) helps me to get an idea of their personality and what they might like. Or I’ll ask them to show me examples of what they like, and from there we go back and forth with design proofs until it’s just right. Then we get to choose the fun things like envelope color and liners and all the little details that complete the package! It’s important to me that the paper goods are a good representation of the couple and their relationship. I want them to feel excited and sentimental when they hold them in their hands!
- What has your favorite suite been so far?
My favorite suite so far is one that is still in the works with a hand drawn map, clean modern fonts and no color whatsoever- just black and white. It’s my favorite because the bride’s aesthetic is different from my own so the design process has been a challenge and gotten me “out of the box.”Obsessed with the strong feminine simplicity of this suite! - What is your favorite thing to create/design?
I love designing anything with multiple pages because it is like a little booklet and I am an absolute bibliophile! - What is the number one question couples ask you?
“How should we word it?” Traditionally, wedding invitations have very formal wording and a specific etiquette to follow, which works for certain types of events, but today I think wedding invites can be a lot more casual and playful. We see bohemian weddings, brunch weddings, weddings at camp grounds, weddings on the beach! They don’t all take place in a chapel or country club anymore so I like that the stationery changes with the trends.
